Using Handbrake

While making a film, some students may want to feature clips from other films or tv shows.  Using the program Handbrake, which burns DVDs, you can do so.

First, you can download the program at

Then, after putting the selected DVD into your computer, open the program.  Next, you will choose the source which is located on the top left tool bar of the program and select the DVD.  After that, your program will look like this:

Under Destination, you can choose where you want to save the file.

By using the 2nd tool bar, located on the center of the program screen, you can adjust many aspects of the film.  Under “video”  you have the option of adjusting the format, and size.  Also, under Audio and Subtitles, you can choose various options such as adding subtitles.

When you are ready to burn the DVD, you press “Play” located on the top of the tool bar.  When it is finished burning, it will be located in the destination you have selected.

Then, you are able to open up the burned copy with Premiere and edit it as you wish.
