Screen Capture Program

In creating my first video project, I needed to find a program that allowed me to capture what was happening on my screen. I feel this would be very useful for the remixing/mash-up project. It’s free and it’s incredibly easy to use.

CamStudio is an open-source program that allows you to capture what you do on-screen. As said, its incredibly easy to use. All you need to do is choose one of the three region options: Region, Fixed Region, or Full Screen.

Region places a box on screen, and allows you to select the area you want to film, and you can move the box during recording.

Fixed Region sets the size to the fixed size of the program, and you can still drag and drop the box as you record.

Full Screen captures the entire screen.

To start, just press the big, red, circular record button. When you’ve captured what you need to, just press the big, blue, square stop button. It’ll tell you to save you work (as an AVI only, which I’m pretty sure is unsupported in Premiere and will need to be converted) and then it will play it back! You’ll notice that it also captures the bits of you stopping and starting the capture, but these can easily be cut out in premiere. It should be noted that the full screen captures are a bit low-quality as well, but other than that, it’s a useful and simple program!
