DIY – FTP
This week’s blogpost will be how to upload to an FTP server at the University of Pittsburgh to your student web space.
For this, you will need a computer with internet access to Pitt’s server.
Step 1 – open an FTP program. I use FileZilla, which is free here: http://filezilla-project.org/
Step 2 – Under “host,” type “unixs.cis.pitt.edu.”
Step 3 – Under “username,” type your pitt student ID.
Step 4 – Under password, use your pitt student password.
Step 5 – Under port, type “22” which is the default port.
Step 6 – Click “Connect.”
Step 7 – You can either find the content you wish to upload through the program’s browser, or click and drag from another window. Either way, drag your content towards the right-hand window.
And that’s it. You’ve successfully uploaded content to a server. To access that content, type in “www.pitt.edu/~” and then your username and then a slash (“/”) followed by the filename of your content (some content won’t be visible on a browser)
