Creating a Flickering Title Sequence

In my title sequence, I wanted one line to flicker in a haphazard way — like an old flourescent light bulb. With use of the razor tool, I was able to create this effect.

First, create two title sequences. In my example, one title sequence says EDWARD and another says GOREY. Lay them in separate tracks ontop of each other. Since I wanted the bottom GOREY title sequence to flicker, I laid it on the bottom.

See, Here is everything looking all clean and even at the beginning:

Zoom into the track, since we will be taking out fractions of seconds from the sequence.

With the razor tool, make two small cuts close to each other on the bottom title sequence. It should look like this:

Select the small section of the sequence with the selector tool and delete it. It should then look something like this:

Continue this process across the bottom title sequence until it looks like the following:

It is fine if the sections are uneven. It actually adds to the flickering flourescent lightbulb vibe.
