What is a keyframe and how do I use it?

If you’ve accidentally clicked your audio clips like I have, you’ll notice a yellow dot appear as well as the comment “Add keyframe” in your History panel:

What did I just do?! A keyframe will allow you to adjust things like audio levels of a segment enclosed between two or more yellow dots. I added another keyframe by clicking on a different point in my track, and now it looks like this:

The second keyframe is yellow and there is now a grey dot on either side of it. Now I can click and drag the yellow dot up and down and side to side to change the audio levels for that portion of my clip, like this:

Play around with them and see if you like the changes you’ve made to your audio!
